What a World

So, here I am in Ann Arbor Michigan. The first thing that struck me while riding to my hotel was no leaves on the the trees, no blooms, no green. Everything was pretty much GRAY! Coming from a technicolor springtime that is winding down to make room for summer makes for a somewhat shocking experience.

Then I start thinking about people way of north of here who see WHITE and are still picking ice out of their teeth. And at the tip top of our world some people only know white. Describing to them how Kyle and I fish shirtless in 80 degree heat, sucking on ice cold beers while reeling in the catch of the day would make no sense at all. I mean where are the polar bears?

Then my mind really goes into scramble mode. The Chinese middle class is trying to emulate our sprawling suburbs complete with 2-3 car garages, big box shopping centers and the like. Then they have to have our cars to get around and our cops and traffic lights to handle all the congestion this creates. And yet there are millions in developing countries who don't know anything about complex shelter, plumbing, transportation that doesn't need to be fed hay or anything we call "modern day world."

My mind shifts now to the Galapagos Islands where prehistoric animals have no idea that we humans even exist on this planet. They are the planet as far as they're concerned.

We all sit in our own little worlds thinking we are the chosen ones and that if the world is green for us it must be green for all kind. And if it is gray, or white then what else could it be?

Maybe the Galapagos turtles will win the race in the end. They are color blind and frankly don't give a $#it about a three car garage.
