How You Know When to Hire

Why would an organization not hire someone who is obsessed with their organization? Maybe there are logistics to consider, payroll, openings, positions and I'm sure there are many HR people out there shaking their heads at my suggestion. In Good to Great, Jim Collins insists that the first thing you do before even determing strategy is ask "Who's on the bus?" When you find the right person, someone who fits your organization you hire them and then figure out the strategy. When you have someone that is obsessed with your organization enough to figure out how to surgically implant their resume into a six foot inflatable hammerhead, you hire them. Which is what we did when one of our former student/stars dropped off his inflatable hammerhead on Monday, before we arrived at the office.
