Gen Y and Government

One of the largest and best known research companies in Britain, Ipsos MORI, recently published a report on Gen Y's relationship with the UK government. A lot of the information is geared toward policymakers but there are a lot of great gems that can be useful for anyone looking to learn more about Gen Y's thinking and values.

An interesting nugget uncovered doesn't bode well for large corporations:

"This partly relates to IPODs’ lack of trust in corporate relationships. They are more critical of, and sceptical about, the corporate world, than older generations – and do not automatically believe that a consumer relationship is the best expression of a relationship. For example, Generation Y workers are slightly more critical of their employers than Generation X and more likely to have been put off of working for a specific employer by negative publicity they have heard or read (29% Generation Y agree vs 21% of Generation X)8. They also show a tendency to turn their backs on global corporations as employers overall, being a little more likely to want to work for a small, local organisation than a larger, global one (28% Generation Y vs 22% Generation X)."
