I got sucked into a trick by AOL today that read "Dustin Hoffmann Fights Robber Action Caught on Security Camera"
Clever headlines are one thing but blatant trickery is another. The story is about a Dunkin Donuts employee named Dustin Hoffmann (notice the extra "n") who fought a robber. This story would never be on the welcome screen if the employee's name wasn't so close the famous actor's name.
So basically AOL is tricking users into clicking on a link and then providing them with a story which isn't even news worthy.
Is it any wonder why in a recent study media companies and journalism rank near the bottom of respected professions?
