This weekend at the beach I've witnessed a great showing of an often overlooked sport. The people participating in the sport call it skim boarding, in truth it should be called ass boarding as more time is spent falling on your ass than skimming.
If you live somewhere like Nebraska you may not be familar with this sport. It is where a person takes a thin wooden board about the length of a skate board and slides it across incoming surf and jumps on for a short ride.
Skim boarding is nothing like surfing although it requires balance. A person doesn't even need to be able to swim to skim board. Skim boarding may be the safer choice despite constantly falling I've never heard of a skim boarder being the victim of a shark attack.
This is the only sport that it is more fun to watch amateurs than professionals. The board is a very humbling experience as most lose balance in under a second or fail to displace their momentum. The funny part is watching people land in awkard positions as they try to stay vertical with arms flailing.
I really appreciate all those people who were really bad skim boarders this weekend. Keep up the good work!
