Pirate Attacks Up Housing is Down

NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) -- Pirate attacks worldwide jumped 14 percent in the first nine months of 2007, with the biggest increases off the poorly policed waters of Somalia and Nigeria, an international watchdog reported Tuesday.

Why are pirate attacks up? While there are so many obvious reasons a person would become a pirate I'll offer up a few:

#1 IT IS JUST PLAIN COOL- Pirates are peaking right now, they are very trendy. With the success of the movie Pirates of the Carribbean many people are turning to the pirate industry because, well it is just so darn cool. Johnny Depp is really working for the industry and turning those who'd otherwise go towards a typical job selling insurance towards pirating. As many people in generation Y care less about salary but more important work place perks like being able to bring a parrot to work and the fact that they have a plank right at the office simply makes being a pirate more attractive.

#2 EDUCATION- As I mentioned before, pirating is becoming a very popular career choice. In fact Forbes Magazine reported it as the #3 major among current undergraduates. Many students today look for more than a career, they look to make a difference in the world. Being a pirate gives a person not only a great career but the chance to be remarkable.

#3 HOUSING-The current housing market is in shambles which is causing many would be real estate agents and mortgage brokers towards a lucrative career seeking treasure.

#4 TREASURE- The big discovery of the sunken treasure off the coast of Spain makes anyone want to start pillaging.
